The Art of Ruth Stromswold

ARTIST STATEMENT: Sageland is the signature piece of an ongoing series of paintings of the arid grass lands of Eastern Washington. The grayed green of sagebrush set against the soft red undertones of the hills are common sights in the Northwest and I find their complimentary colors pleasing in many compositions. Traveling the lesser known parts of the Northwest challenges me to develop paintings of a common theme that express the spirit and beauty of the area.

My excursions lead me down inviting back roads to unfamiliar places that are a joy to discover and translate in paint. Capturing the essence of the land and allowing it to resonate with the viewer is my greatest reward as an artist.
