The Art of Lisa Hill

My gardener’s heart revels in the magic months; a glorious stretch of time loosely bound by the spring and autumn equinoxes. Logic and experience leave no doubt that what grew lush and colorful last season will do so again and again. But my mind’s eye can be stubbornly myopic when I try to recall the details.

Knowing I would need a visual boost in the dreary days of February, I felt compelled to capture the essence of summer’s heat and bright light with the brilliant colors of vegetables at the farmer’s market, and the remarkable size and stoutness of a sunflower grown from such a tiny seed. Waiting now at the edge of spring, I am eager to hear the faint rustle as plants begin to stir from winter’s grasp.
