INSPIRATION: Looming clouds, sheets of precipitation, shifting light – the Northwest affords us four distinct seasons, big skies, and a diverse landscape.

Creating both tension as well as balance by playing these elements off each other on the canvas, in my mind, is the key to capturing the Northwest landscape.

Cooler Autumn temperatures, shorter days – lend themselves to good painting especially outdoors. I can’t think of a better way to spend my day than painting while my husband challenges himself with brook trout in a mountain stream.

Autumn’s quiet inspired me to complete a series on the moods of the Northwest weather and how it plays beautifully on our landscape.

Whether it be the drama of the winter sky, misty colors of the spring, contrasting sunsets or brilliant fall days, the light and weather are powerful elements that define the day as well as define our moods.

It is wonderful that the Northwest seasons are distinct and about the time ‘you’ve had enough’ the next one begins to unveil itself.

Winter is waning and spring and all its envious beauty including that ‘neighbor’s garden’ is just around the corner. Please visit my website for my complete work including this latest series.
